Imagine living paycheck to paycheck, never knowing whether or not you are going to have enough money to buy enough food to get by. imagine not even living paycheck to paycheck, rather living every day not knowing which of your family members, friends, or even yourself will make it to the next day. Countless people in this world face this devastating fear every day of their life due to their lack of food. This lack of food has been caused by high prices of food and high demand of food, both of which add to a low availability of food for those who cannot afford the necessities. Meanwhile, high society throws out good food every day simply because it is unwanted, wasting all of this food that is still perfectly edible and would be relished. We, as responsible citizens must both appreciate and value that which is given to us.

Eumind truly has provided us students with a wonderful opportunity to learn and interact with others in a way we would not have received a chance to do otherwise. Speaking with our partner group gives us a far deeper understanding into the small differences in our daily lives and cultures which we could never have learned of without receiving the knowledge first-hand. Not only with our foreign group, but through our interviews and research, it has brought out an awareness in all of us and given us an opportunity to learn how the real world works. In regards to our research topic, we have learned that above all, ignorance is largely to be blamed for wastage of food in our country. Neither do we realise the gravity of this problem nor do we realise just how much of a difference we can make in saving food by adopting small changes in our daily lives. After trying and testing in our very own households we can be assured that mending our exorbitant ways is really not that hard. What remains lacking in our minds is initiative. Initiative to take a step towards adopting changes in our lives.
What have you learned about how can we reduce food waste at home and at school?
Food waste contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and wastes the water and other resources it takes to grow the food. While the average consumer is not a large environmental polluter compared to large corporations, finding ways to reduce food waste throughout the day can help a person avoid contributing to the problem.
1)Avoid Buying Too Much:
One of the simplest ways to avoid food waste as a consumer is to buy
Less. A packed fridge may look appealing but it could potentially lead to
Food waste.Taking a couple of shorter trips to the grocery store each
Week than one long trip may prevent people from buying excess and help
Cut back on waste.
2)Think Twice Before Throwing Food Away:
While mold is a definite sign that something has to be thrown away. It is
Not necessary to throw foods which are just slightly past their prime.
For example, fruits and vegetables might soften and wilt if they are
Slightly past their prime but they still make excellent additions to soups,
Smoothies and baked dishes.
3)Store Food Appropriately:
Perishable items such as fruits and vegetables each have their best way
To store them to avoid spoilage.
Leftovers from open cans should always be stored in a suitable container.
4)Pack a Lunch:
Investing in quality food containers that do not leak and are light and
Convenient to carry can help.
Making extra portions of evening meals to keep in the fridge as ready-to-
Go packed lunches eliminate the need to spend extra time making lunch
Before work or school in the morning. This might also save a person
Money.
5) Educating Students About Food Waste:
When young students better understand the grand implications of an uneaten sandwich, a tossed aside celery stick, or abandoned 250 ml carton of milk they will think twice about not only their own actions, but those of their fellow classmates and the folks back at home.
6) More Time To Eat:
Every parent knows about this valid excuse as to why a packed lunch wasn’t fully eaten. There simply wasn’t enough time.
